The Vegan Project: My Vegan Valentine...

The Vegan Project, (which I spoke about in this post) and I, have been at it again...
Recently I've been tagging along with the girls, photographing some yummy vegan food around the city, as well as having the delight of the ladies cooking up a storm for me in their Vegan Project Bake Shoppe....

That said, our latest collaboration ended up being with Granville Magazine, which had the girls dreaming up an all vegan brunch for Valentine's Day!

The Menu Includes:

Vegan Apple Rosemary Scones
Vegan Asparagus Pesto Crepes

Strawberry Avocado Salad

Gourmet fair-trade organic coffee

Mimosa, made with sparkling white wine from the Okanagan

Optional: Finish off the romantic meal with some sensual vegan chocolate truffles

I got to eat/sample the main dishes (scones, crepes & salad) and they were all amazing!

Anyways...follow the girls on twitter and on their blog! If there are any other vegans out there in internet-land, leave a comment below...as I may or may not be taking on quite a vegan challenge fairly soon...

Meat Schmeat...

New friends Jess and Bridget are starting a little thing called The Vegan Project.

"We are passionate about our health, the environment, and the treatment of animals. We are learning about what it means to be vegan and documenting our experiences here."

The girls posted on their twitter the other day that they wanted some photos and offered goodies and love. Working for food? I'm in.

I had lunch with Jess at Nuba (Cafe...the one on Hastings lost power!) first which was delicious (I had the falafel):

We then went over to Bridget's house and the girls made vegan peanut butter crispy squares (I tried them later and they were tasty):

After that it was off to Commercial Drive for some shots of of their favourite restaurants/organic stores, as well as a stop into Addis Cafe, an Ethiopian restaurant, to try some of their food as a 3pm snack (it was really good...The Veggie Combo: omen, fasolia, yater alitcha, meser wot):

It was a great afternoon and full of yummy food (I still couldn't give up cheese...yet), and I will be with them again next week to shoot a bit more!

Valentimes...

I stopped by the Cocoa Nymph the other day to shoot Rachel's Valentine's Day chocolates: Brandied Cherries!

She's also made cinnamon, champagne, rose and cherry chocolates.

Go eat some chocolate, I'm full of it right now!

"What IS that, it's gorgeous!"

I was talking about a loaf of bread.
Actually.
It was a poppy seed loaf.
And they gave it to me afterward. So good.

I did some basic food-on-white photography for my friends over at European Breads Bakery. The bread speaks for itself...it is all very pretty and very tasty. In fact, last year their baguettes were on VanMag's 101 To Eat Before You Die!:

Here are some of the close-ups I did just for fun and because the bread was so pretty!:

I Love Food Photography

Updates timez!

So many updates will happen today... so here's the first:
Tearsheets! These are from VanMag's October Issue which features 101 Things to Eat/Drink version 2.0...
I was one of 3 photographers (inlcuding the wonderful photographer and newest VanMag photo intern Mark Cohene) working on this feature, and shot 16 in total (a smaller feat compared to last year's 65+!)
Here are some pages with some of my shots:

Also in this issue was my photo of Cambie Street, which was featured as it is no longer a pile of construction!

So many updates...

...that are still going to be a while.
Since the last blog post I've shot another wedding, beach soccer tournament play, warped tour, Adrienne Pierce's show at the Media Club, softball playoffs and I am now working on some stuff for Vancouver Magazine.
I have over 3000 photos to dig through, and I'm slowly getting there and setting priorities (the hard part).

Here's a shot from today... an "outtake" if you will... that was semi-on-purpose...
As much as pork grosses me out, it's pretty awesome to watch chef's prepare things in tedious detail.
I wrote on Twitter that once I'm rich and famous off my food photography, I'll learn to cook professionally...the majority of my study will be based around seafood and vegetables.

Okay...I'm hungry again.
