MMMsnacks

Here are some of my photos in this month's Vancouver Magazine...they did an "Ultimate Bar Guide" and I covered the "Best Bar Snacks". I actually took about 11 photos and only 3 made the cut, so maybe I'll post some more here!
Also, I tried SIX of the items on the list, and they were are all amazing...!

"What IS that, it's gorgeous!"

I was talking about a loaf of bread.
Actually.
It was a poppy seed loaf.
And they gave it to me afterward. So good.

I did some basic food-on-white photography for my friends over at European Breads Bakery. The bread speaks for itself...it is all very pretty and very tasty. In fact, last year their baguettes were on VanMag's 101 To Eat Before You Die!:

Here are some of the close-ups I did just for fun and because the bread was so pretty!:

I Love Food Photography

Updates timez!

So many updates will happen today... so here's the first:
Tearsheets! These are from VanMag's October Issue which features 101 Things to Eat/Drink version 2.0...
I was one of 3 photographers (inlcuding the wonderful photographer and newest VanMag photo intern Mark Cohene) working on this feature, and shot 16 in total (a smaller feat compared to last year's 65+!)
Here are some pages with some of my shots:

Also in this issue was my photo of Cambie Street, which was featured as it is no longer a pile of construction!

Making myself hungry....

Vancouver Magazine's 101 Things To Eat/Drink 2009 is out on the website!
It's pretty awesome, and I have about 15 photos in it this year.
Check it out here!

My favourite it the popsicle. It's Jon's little brother Mishak that modeled it for me (Camille did too, but they picked Mish)...it's a tough life when friends come over and say: Here! Eat this popsicle for me.

So many updates...

...that are still going to be a while.
Since the last blog post I've shot another wedding, beach soccer tournament play, warped tour, Adrienne Pierce's show at the Media Club, softball playoffs and I am now working on some stuff for Vancouver Magazine.
I have over 3000 photos to dig through, and I'm slowly getting there and setting priorities (the hard part).

Here's a shot from today... an "outtake" if you will... that was semi-on-purpose...
As much as pork grosses me out, it's pretty awesome to watch chef's prepare things in tedious detail.
I wrote on Twitter that once I'm rich and famous off my food photography, I'll learn to cook professionally...the majority of my study will be based around seafood and vegetables.

Okay...I'm hungry again.

You Are Here...and Here

Currently, my "You Are Here" is the steps in front of my house. It's my only access to outside (I'd kill for a patio/balcony) and it's BEAUTIFUL in Vancouver right now. If only my neighbourhood had more patios...esp. with internet. I'd be a happy camper.

I was just emailed the pages from the last two Vancouver Magazine issues with my photos in them. They are both from the You Are Here section which highlights interesting areas of the lower mainland... real estate and lifestyle wise.
The first is of UniverCity, which is a new housing area located up at SFU. It was interesting getting out there, and it was so long ago that there was still snow on the ground; while I write this now, I'm in a skirt and t-shirt.

The second is of Coal Harbour, which has been built up a lot over the last few years. I enjoyed shooting it becuase you know... mountains... oceans... trees... boats. If only I was a millionaire.

I was lucky enough to be asked to shoot the same section for the next issue too. Three in a row... I'm on a roll.

Guestlists!

Yesterday I was on two guestlists...I felt special.

First stop of the day (yes, day. 1pm in the afternoon on a Tuesday) I went to the Vancouver Magazine 20th Annual Restaurant Awards.
I have to say...it was amazing.

I took a few photos with my G9, but I was very content to not have to work and actually enjoy myself and schmooze.
Here is one of the most incredible desserts I've ever seen/eaten:

It is a tiramisu shooter...with a birds nest of spun sugar. So good.

Next stop (after managing to give myself an awful blister) was to the Media Club for a sold out show that Nat Jay was opening. I even got two special badges/stickers saying I was her photographer.
Nat was great as always and played her "gutsy" set-list and the crowd was excellent.
Here are a few shots:

More Published!

The published section of my website...when I get around to re-doing it... is going to have so many pretty, and new things!
Below is the ad that Van Mag ran with the photos I took at the launch party for the website.
The second image is from this month's issue of FASHION Magazine! My photo is of the accessories from Little Dream. It's a cute little store that just moved into the Net Loft on Granville Island...making me love that set of shops even more. Check them out!

Un-Wine'd

So I went to Mexico.
And now I'm back and catching up with everything. I even had a shoot today.
Bizzy Bee.

In my mailbox, upon my return, was my copy of the April Issue of Vancouver Magazine and on the 2nd last page was my photo of Joey's Wine Bar at the Bentall Center in downtown Vancouver.
The room was hard to work, people saying yes and then no to being photographed and then I was in the way every two seconds (you can see how crowded it was when i GOT there in the photo), but the photo they chose in the end...I think it looks great!

Anyways...here is it. I am uploading a big version so that you can click on it and see it bigger to read the text about it (specifically the last line). It had me laughing at midnight after 12 hours of traveling!

vanmag.com launch!

I was asked to photograph the launch party for Vancouver Magazine's newly redesigned Website! at Nu Restaurant. Their new website looks great, I enjoy how you view my 101 Things to Eat photos!
And actually, when it was published, there was one food item that I wished I had the chance to do the photo for as it looked delicious (check out #62 here: Nu's Beer-Injected Fried Oyster), and it just so happened I was offered one at the party!

Here's one I took on my way home while walking over the Granville St. Bridge.

Sitting, Waiting, Wishing....Editing, Hair-pulling, Sleeping

No recent photos to put up, my last few days have all been spent in front of a computer. I will be flying to Toronto on Wednesday to visit for just under two weeks and shoot a wedding, so I've been attempting to get all the computer things done and out of the way...booking tickets, wedding photos, website updates... hey, that's something to post!

Click to check out my website...the main photo and the published works pages are updated

Also, while I wait for the PDF's of my recent work for Vancouver Magazine to arrive... got out and see for yourself!!! I have many many many pages with my work on it and am so excited to show you page 12. (or you can look at them online.

This is what the cover looks like (unfortunately, not my photo)...

Next post will probably be from someone's living room in Toronto!

100 To Eat Before You Die...might just kill me.

EXHAUSTING. That's what this past week was... I got to shoot a great assignment for Vancouver Magazine that had me driving from Richmond to Deep Cove to Downtown and North and West Van! I learned so much about the city (through getting lost and reading maps) and cannot wait for the issue to come out, esp. because I have another surprise...that actually is barely a surprise as I've told so many people already.

In the meantime...here's the image of the Best Buy's section of Vancouver Magazine's September issue (out on newsstands right now!)
(My work is in the bottom right corner:

Things I love....

I am so happy that I got the chance to work with Ronit Novak as she introduced me to the wonderful invention of the portable shooting table...
